Interested
in Participating in a Wii Bowling League in Cincinnati?
**the goal is to have this begin in mid-late January '08
Background: Hi.
My name is Ann. My husband and I have lived in Cincinnati going
on two years and
haven't had the time to make a lot of friends (nor did we know
where to find people we were compatible with). Bars are OK, but not
typically our scene. A few months back we got a Wii and have found
it to be pretty fun. So one night I got to thinking. How about trying
to make more friends while playing the Wii? Just to give you an
idea -- I
am an IT Manager and he is a Chemical Engineer. So, although I
may be a little crazy trying to dream this up, we are pretty normal
people (but maybe I am biased).
Concept: Have
a league comprised of teams of 2. How many teams? Depends on
how many people are interested. We would essentially have
a schedule where you -- a team of 2 -- would go to another house
of a team of 2. The next week, you would play another team of
2...possibly
at their place or at your's again (just depends on the schedule).
Think of your house as a "lane" and it depends on whether
or not you are bowling on your lane that week. You might be bowling
on a different lane. Here is an example using 4 teams (though
I hope to have more):
Team
names are (you will find these quite original) -- Team 1, Team
2, Team 3, and Team 4.
Week 1 -- Team 2 at Team 1's house, Team 4 at Team
3's house
Week 2 -- Team 1 at Team 4's house, Team 3 at Team 2's house
Week 3 -- Team 3 at Team 1's house, Team 2 at Team 4's house
***then we could go through it again but switch houses. The entire
schedule or how to work this is up for discussion.
Scoring: This
piece is also up for discussion. It could just be a totally social
league and your score is your score. Or, we could do a handicapping
league. That would be worked out at the "league meeting."
Eligibility
and Cost: You
or your "teammate" MUST own a Wii. That is the only way this
will work. Beyond that, the only cost would be the cost of gas
to go to the other team's home
when
it is
not
at
your
house.
Additionally,
if you
are hosting,
you may want to provide some munchies or drinks or we could make
it a BYO(put a letter here) league. Bring your own munchies,
drinks, etc. We do know it will be BYOM (bring your own Mii...by
loading it on your remote). Again, all this can be worked out.
**The
only exception is if we decide at the first meeting we want to
have a league party at the end with trophies. Then, we may need
to chip in a few bucks (but nothing like the $10 - $12 a week
at a real bowling alley!).
Next
Steps: I
am just trying to get a feel for how many people are interested
in doing something like this. It is obviously just in the concept
stage, but I am hoping to make it a reality. I am willing to
do the leg work and use this website to layout rules and schedule,
etc. So, if you have a Wii and enjoy meeting new people and think
it might
be
fun,
